Week 10 Progress

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

It’s taking quite an effort to sit down and catch up with my blog.  I didn’t manage to write a post last week on my progress because I was pretty annoyed with myself.  Things haven’t been going well and I’ve really slipped off the pace.

Last week I just let it all go and slipped back into something that feels a bit more natural.  I wanted to try and figure out why after a successful first half of the year I’m having such a bad second half of the year.  I’m not sure I know what it is yet but it definitely has something to do with my diet.  The exercise is going quite well and I’m enjoying the results of doing more weights in the gym.  The diet though is making me feel stuffed all of the time.  It makes me feel bloated and uncomfortable.  I’m not sure whether it’s the quantity or the ratio of foods but something is out of kilter.

The plan for next week is to eat quite healthily, get one weights work-out in and then a CV workout too.  Then I’m off to do some serious R&R.  Bestival is next weekend so I shall be forgetting all about this weight loss thing and hopefully when I come back I’ll be ready to rock it to the end of year goals.

Week 2 Progress

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Well it’s the end of week 2 and I’ve just updated my progress charts. The on I’m going to put up here is my weight loss one…

As you can see on the right my weight has gone up 0.5kg.  Very annoying.  At the moment I’m willing to let it slide a little bit but not for long.  I’ll be really disappointed if it goes up again over the next week.

As for the rest of my measurements I think they’re still bedding in and it’ll be interesting to see how they develop.  There’s obviously a lot more error that can occur in these types of measurement and I still need some practise at taking them.

What else has been going on this week?  Well the gym work has continued.  I managed 3 weights sessions and 1 step class this week.  I wanted to get out on my bike this weekend but my improving of the kitchen has got in the way and I’ve been fitting skirting boards and sealing worktops instead.  The main thing that happened this week though was my new scales arrived.

I picked them up from Amazon for about £12 and they are pretty neat.  What I’ve been doing over the past couple of weeks is just generally increasing the amount of food I’ve been having but I haven’t taken another measurement to see if I’m hitting the right amount of calories, protein, carb and fat.  These little bad boys are going to help me do that.

One of the things I was looking for in a set of scales was the abiity to easily tare them.  I wanted to be able to put a bowl on and zero the scales, then add cereal, take a note and zero the scales, then add milk, take a note and zero the scales.  It’ll make it so much easier to count calories compared to trying to weigh everything with the old school scales we had.

My goals for next week… Get in some good weights sessions.  It’s my final week of “beginners” weights so I want a good one before I move on to more advanced weight-lifting stuff.  I also want to get rid of that extra 0.5kg I put on.  Other than that it would be nice to see the general trends start to develop.

Wish me luck.

Sid.

Week 1 Progress

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

It’s the end of week 1 and I think I’ve done alright.

The graph above is my skin fold measurement and it’s taken a good dive.  It reminds me of my first weeks weight loss.  I’m not paying much attention to it just yet though.  For the first few weeks it’s more about the transition so I’ll probably see some big changes for not much effort.  Once things settle down I think the changes will be more modest.  The other thing about these first few weeks is trying to get a feel for the error in measurement.  When you’re measuring weight you just step on the scales and there’s pretty much not a lot that can go wrong.  With skin fold measurement it seems like there is a bit of an art to it.

So what have I changed this week?  Not much other than I’ve got back in the gym and I’m starting to get back into my weights routine.  I managed to get 2 weights sessions in, a step class and I got out on my bike for a couple of hours yesterday.  All good but I need to get an extra weights session in and an extra CV class in too during the week.

The other thing that’s change is the amount of food I eat.  I seem to be stuffing my face.  I’ll write a separate post on that later.

For now I’m off to plan next weeks menu.

Weight loss tracker week 11 – Only 0.5kg

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Just the 0.5kg loss, about a pound.  I didn’t have that focussed of a week this week and as well as feeling like I exercised too little I also feel I wasn’t great with my food.  I’m pretty happy with the 0.5kg loss because of those reasons but I’m not happy that I wasn’t focussed.

It means I’ve just slipped off averaging 1kg per week but I’m still ahead of my goals.  The other good thing was I blitzed my 2000m rowing time again.  I took another 5 secs off to get me down to 8m10.2s.  Not bad.  Only 3 people on the gym wall are quicker than me now, but they are quicker by a long long way.

So this next week it’s sock pulling up time.  I’ve got a good week ahead that will challenge what I choose to eat when I’m eating out and out of my routine.  Tonight I’m meeting up with a mate and heading out for dinner and drinks then on Thursday I have lunch and dinner out as well as a weekend away at the Outdoor Show.  I’m determined not to eat badly there since that’s one of my rewards for losing weight!

Weight-Loss Tracker – Week 10

Monday, March 16th, 2009

I had suspected that this morning when I got on the sclaes I’d not be where I wanted to be.  I had been aiming for 105kg or 16.5 stone but yesterday I went o watch the rugby and had a curry afterwards, along with a few pints.

This morning though i was over the moon to see I’d cracked the 16.5stone mark.

I’m over the moon.

I now feel like I’m entering that relaxed but efficient stage of this.  I’m not sure if anyone else does this but towards the end of a project or during a rowing challenge or spinning challenge I set myself in the gym there’s a point at which everything just clicks.  You relax into what you’re doing, you know what needs to be done, you’re focussed, there’s no way you’re not going to do what you set out to do and you know that you’re going to finish strong.  That’s where I am right now.

I know that that 100kg mark is mine.  Ther is no doubt in my mind that I’ll acheive it by my birthday.  In fact, if I was to get very cocky I know that I’m going to drop the last 5 kg in 5 weeks.  1kg a week.

I fucking own this!

Weight Loss Tracker Week 6

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Well it’s the end of week 6 in my new fitness regime but it feels like it’s been a lot longer.  This morning before I got on the scales had been preparing to write plenty of excuses as to why I’d put on weight.  Thankfully though I have still lost weight compared to last Monday.

I usually have a cheeky weigh-in midweek and this week wasn’t any different.  It did say 107.5kg so I am a little disappointed to see my weight at 108kg this morning but overall it’s looking good and that line keeps on going down.

I do still feel I didn’t have the best week ever.  One thing I have discovered though is multi-vitamins.  After last weekend I was feeling a little run down and lethargic so I invested in some Berocca and some Centrum A-Z.  They’ve picked me up no end and I’ll be continuing to take them.  I guess it’ss hard to get everything you need on a calorie restricted diet.

Anyway, the graph is below and I’m aiming for 106.5kg – 107kg for this time next week.

A cheeky little weight in.

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

I’m always very keen to have a little weigh in every now and then, just to see how I’m getting on.  I like to know I’m approaching my goals etc and that I’m not gradually slipping.

I know some people who weigh themselves religiously everyday and they’re not even on a diet!  I try to avoid weighing myself everyday though as I think you quickly lose sight of hat you’re doing.  I don’t think you’ll ever lose enough weight in a day to really make any difference to the number.  Despite having the urges to weigh myself I much prefer to keep it to once a week so that I can actually see the difference.

This morning though I couldn’t resist.  For some reason I felt a lot lighter and I wanted to see if I’d cracked the 110kg mark.  I was 110kg bang on.

I can’t wait to hit 109kg and I’m pushing hard for it.  It’ll be the lightest I’ve been for over 12 years meaning I’ll be in better shape now than I was when I was 18!

Weight Loss Tracker – Week 3

Monday, January 26th, 2009

So, it’s the end of week 3 and below is my weight loss tracker.

This last week I made a conscious decision to slow down the weight loss a little bit.  Although it’s good to be losing a load of weight I don’t want to lose it too quickly.  Whenever I do any reading around people always say if you lose it too quickly you’ll just end up putting it back on.  Having said that…that 109kg goal is looming.  If I manage to hit 109kg by the end of the week then I’ll be a month ahead of schedule but more importantly I’ll be the lightest I’ve been for over 10 years!  I’m in quite a hurry to get there.

Also, while we are on the subject of weight-loss trackers it reminds me of another “R” in those SMARTER goals, RECORDING.  A lot of people recommend that you record your goals and track your progress against them.  I tend to do it without thinking and I find it a great help, especially when it’s quite visual like my graph below.  Last time I tried to lose weight I used a little ticker from The Ticker Factory.  It was a little snail that crawled along the ground as I lost weight.  Unfortunately it remained relatively static for me at the time!
